Flake Statement on Supporting Passage of National Defense Authorization Act

Statement

Date: Sept. 18, 2017
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) today released the following statement on final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Flake voted in favor of the measure to ensure funding at the Department of Defense (DOD), maintaining support for the military and programs vital to national security:

"I'm pleased to vote for a defense bill that gives the armed forces and its warfighters the resources necessary to provide for a strong national defense," said Flake.

This legislation included Flake's Review of Military Compensation Preferences amendment that would help the DOD better understand military compensation preferences that are crucial to delivering valued benefits to service members and their families, as well as ensuring an all-volunteer force is sustainable for the future. To achieve this, the amendment requires the DOD to include within the Quadrennial Review of Military Compensation a survey of military personnel on the subject of compensation, along with a review of the costs of those aspects of compensation. This amendment can be viewed here.

This legislation also included Flake's Department of Defense Research Disclosure amendment that will help defend taxpayers against wasteful spending by requiring the price tags be included in press releases and other documents describing projects funded by the DOD. This amendment can be viewed here.
